Excuse our dust! We're enhancing your Wolf Trap experience with the new Meadow Commons building. Construction is in progress at the Park through May 2024. Thank you for your patience and support as we create a more welcoming Wolf Trap for all!

The Meadow Commons is a new multi-functional three-story building that will elevate the patron experience at Wolf Trap’s Filene Center. It replaces the original concessions stand that was built in 1971. The new Meadow Commons building will offer expanded food service, additional and upgraded restrooms, a new gathering space, convenient drink fill-up stations, elevators, and an additional picnic terrace overlooking the Meadow.
Construction began in September 2023, and will be completed in time for the 2024 summer season.
The three-story Meadow Commons will be about twice the size of the original, two-story Concessions Stand that was built in 1971. The building will utilize the topography of the existing hillside and natural materials to help minimize impact on Park grounds.
Temporary fencing has been installed on the hill for the safety of our visitors, and to accommodate construction vehicles and materials. The entire hill will be re-established starting in Spring 2024, when restoration and resodding will begin to maintain the same slope and hill.
Yes! Trees were removed with the approval and involvement of the National Park Service and a certified arborist. Two beautiful, 100-year-old oak trees were preserved, and at least 10 native tree species will be planted to replace the ones that were removed.
This multi-level facility will create enduring and positive change for Park visitors for generations to come. In addition to providing improved food and beverage service, for the first time in Wolf Trap’s history, new elevators will connect the upper and lower levels of the Filene Center. Patrons using ADA parking, the picnic pavilions, or the restaurant will have a fully accessible path connecting them to lower areas of the Park, including the seating areas in the Filene Center theatre. Restrooms will be modernized, expanded, and fully accessible. Areas around the building will have additional picnic terraces overlooking the Meadow for the community year-round.
This project is funded by the Park’s nonprofit philanthropic partner, Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts and community donations to its Campaign for Wolf Trap: Our Next Chapter.
This project is part of Wolf Trap National Park’s 10-year Environmental Assessment/Master Plan that was approved in 2022 by the National Park Service (NPS), the National Capital Planning Commission, and the State Historic Preservation Office. This multi-year approval process, which included public involvement, ensures that the natural habitat and original landscape will be preserved.
