Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts and PNC are celebrating an incredible 20-year partnership, united by a passion for the arts, community involvement, and a commitment to early childhood education.

Two Decades of Harmony

Since PNC entered the Greater Washington marketplace two decades ago, its commitment to community and culture has had a positive impact on a variety of organizations.

At the company’s introductory press conference in 2005, PNC featured special guests from cultural pillars of the region, including the Washington Nationals, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and of course, Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts. PNC’s regional president at the time, Michael N. Harreld, noted, “We are very pleased to team with these three well-regarded organizations and celebrate some of the best Washington has to offer.” His successor, Jermaine Johnson, has grown PNC’s partnership with Wolf Trap, making the company a model supporter of philanthropic and commitment to the arts. Additionally, Richard Bynum, PNC’s Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer, has been a member of the Wolf Trap Foundation Board of Directors since 2020.

PNC’s work with Wolf Trap is a standout example of the bank’s dedication to community involvement and charitable giving, reflecting a broader philanthropic commitment to the regions where they operate. Other notable arts and culture partners from across the nation include the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, and the Atlanta Dogwood Festival.

Patron Engagement

PNC’s ongoing commitment to Wolf Trap seamlessly aligns with its mission and philanthropic goals. In an interview, Johnson shared that “From a philanthropic perspective, we are proud that our financial support helps Wolf Trap sustain its dynamic summer programming as well as maintain affordable ticket prices, offer patrons complimentary parking, and the opportunity to bring their own food and drinks.”

Wolf Trap and PNC’s collaboration extends to the thousands of patrons who attend Wolf Trap performances every year. Each summer, PNC sponsors audience activities on the Plaza, including photo booth experiences, giveaways, and sweepstakes offering the best seats and exclusive perks at some of the season’s most popular shows.

Broader Community Impact

Beyond the stage, PNC is committed to early childhood education through its Grow Up Great® program, which helps prepare children for success in school and life. In addition to annual support for Wolf Trap’s early childhood education programs here in the DC metro region, PNC Foundation’s Grow Up Great® program supports seven affiliates across the nation in partnership with Wolf Trap’s Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts.

Johnson shared that the organization supports programs that “plant seeds for a lifetime of opportunities,” and that “Wolf Trap’s Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts is an exemplary program that provides this type of experiential learning.”

A Noteworthy Anniversary

From sold-out shows at the Filene Center to Wolf Trap’s teaching artists across the country and around the world, PNC’s 20 years of support is a milestone worth celebrating.
